Indian Premier League, 30th match: Delhi Daredevils v Royal Challengers Bangalore at Delhi, Apr 26, 2011 Match Review, Result, Scorecard

James Hopes led a Delhi Daredevils recovery after the Royal Challengers Bangalore seamers had made the new ball talk on a Feroz Shah Kotla wicket that had less grass than the one on which Virender Sehwag and David Warner had plundered Kings XI Punjab.

Hopes and Venugopal Rao added 47 off 33 deliveries for the fifth wicket, coming in after Zaheer Khan and S Aravind made the dangerous pair of Sehwag and Warner feel for the new ball that zipped around on a helpful surface. Hopes played the percentages excellently, targeting the three Bangalore spinners for six of his seven boundaries.

It was Rao who had started the fightback, launching Mithun for two boundaries down the ground, and then swat-flicking him for six over deep square leg. At 115 for 3 with five overs to go, Delhi had managed to set the base for the final onslaught, but Rao's blind charge to Daniel Vettori resulted in him losing his stumps. Some late sixes from Irfan Pathan and Naman Ojha lifted Delhi to 160, a score that looks to be par on the pacy pitch.

Sehwag got off to his usual carefree start, slamming his first delivery between extra cover and mid-off, getting beaten four times outside off stump in ten deliveries, and twice edging Aravind just short of the men behind the wicket. His luck eventually ran out when he was caught inches short of his crease by a Mithun throw, attempting a quick single to short fine leg.
Vettori introduced himself and Chris Gayle after six overs, allowing Hopes to settle in. By the time pace came back in the form of Mithun in the tenth over, Hopes had helped himself to three boundaries against the duo. Mithun struck with his fourth delivery, bowling Matthew Wade, but Hopes' intelligent batting gave Delhi a reasonable total to defend.
